While driving home from work today, on the radio (KFYI) was a man named Michael Wickett who goes around giving classes on forgiveness. The concept is that hatred can eat you alive and has no effect what-so-ever (usually) on the person you hate, so why bother? It made a lot of sense to me but most of the callers were assuming that in order to forgive someone, you also had to forget. I had to turn it off when I got home so I don't know if he touched on the forgetting part, if he does at all. It got me to thinking deeper and I came up with a few truths.
- You do not have to like someone to be kind to them.
- Forgiveness does not mean acceptance.
- Understanding does not mean complicity.
- Love does not mean complacency.
