Silence is deafing

Over the last three years or so, Chandler and I have had our ups and downs.  When he gets upset about something, or doesn't understand a decision that I've made, he tends to shut down.  He stoops talking to me, stops answering the door for me, stops having any contact with me, period.  Eventually though, when he's ready, he will come back to me and explain exactly why he did what he did.

It seems as though we are at one of those crossroads once again.  It has almost been three full days since I talked to him, or saw him last.  Keep in mind that we talk on an almost daily basis, even if we don't see each other.  The last time I talked to him, was early Thursday night.  During that conversation, I told him I would be over the following night, which would have been Friday, to watch a TV program with him.  As promised, I was at his apartment on Friday night, but got no answer.  I then came back to my apartment, (we are next-door neighbors) and sent him an instant message via Yahoo.  I was in my chair until about 11:30 Friday night, which means that I was signed in to Yahoo until about 11:20.  I went over to his apartment at about 8:30, and sent him that instant message at about 8:35.  That means he had just under three hours of time to send me an instant message back.  However, I didn't see a single thing.
I then sent him another instant message yesterday just to see how he was doing.  I sent that one at about three o'clock yesterday afternoon.  I got out of my chair at about eight o'clock last night, which means that I was signed in to Yahoo until about 10 minutes to eight.  This gave him approximately 5 hours to respond to my instant message yesterday, and I never saw a thing.  Now, here we are today, Sunday, at almost 1 o'clock in the afternoon.  As of this very moment, I have not heard from him, or seen a single thing of him.  I have been racking my brain trying to figure out if there was any reason why he would be shutting down this time, and I just can't come up with anything substantial.  The only thing I can come up with is that maybe he's read the instant message I sent him regarding my need for nonclinical touch.  If that's the case, he may be stepping away just to take time to digest everything I had to say.  In all honesty, I hope that's the case, because if not, I'm going to have to start playing the guessing game once again.  Only time will tell, and I'll keep you all updated as this continues to unfold.
