straw man (argument)

- presentation of an argument that no other person has made and using that argument as a cause for immediate action.
- a weak or bogus argument set up to be easily refuted.
- a first proposal for a solution to a problem, offered more as a place to start looking for a solution than as a serious suggestion for final action.
